\n We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects.
Elegant and sophisticated magazine rack; it was made in Space Age style by hot molding two sheets of transparent acrylic glass, giving it a sinuous and soft shape; the sheets were fitted one inside the other and joined to the bases with two large and conspicuous chrome screws; on the inner sheet was placed, at the top, an elegant and massive square-section brass bar polished to chrome that serves as the handle of the entire object. The measurements are aesthetically proportionate and pleasing; the magazine rack was created in a well-equipped and innovative workshop in the province of Milan(Italy) between 1970 and 1974. The craftsmen of those fabulous years, tired of conventional materials that did not allow them to go too far with their imagination, turned to acrylic glass for its extraordinary versatility and ease of processing that allowed them to create elegant, extravagant, and modern products rewriting the rules of contemporary design of the ’70s; lamps, chairs, tables and small tables, vases, magazine racks and much more were born from those skilled hands and inventive minds. The style of magazine holder is the “Space Age”, this aesthetic current was born at the dawn of the space age, commonly attributed to the launch of Sputnik in October 1957, and continued until the ’70s, The objects of that period are characterized by essential volumes that recall geometric shapes, breaking definitively with the rationalist tradition. Acrylic glass also made its appearance on the design market in those years, stimulating the interest and creativity of many designers and famous brands, which in the late ’60s and ’70s gave shape to truly innovative objects, populating architecture and fashion magazines; acrylic glass conquers even the daily living giving an original and contemporary aesthetic to objects that accompany us every day, trapped in traditional canons for a long time. Acrylic glass is a plastic material, whose “real” name is Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) or more simply Methacrylate, derived from the name of its structural polymers. Acrylic glass is the best-known trade name, which has become commonly used today. The inventor of this material was Otto Karl Julius Röhm, a German chemist who made it in 1928 and it was later marketed in 1933 by the German Röhm industry. In 1936 the first acrylic sheet was made under the name acrylic glass, which means “to see through”. In fact, among its most appreciated characteristics, there is transparency and it is often used as an alternative to glass also because of its unbreakability. These characteristics, combined with the fact that it is a ductile and versatile material, mean that acrylic glass lends itself easily to different types of processing and is used in different sectors. It’s soft and sensitive to scratches and abrasions that can be easily eliminated thanks to specific polish. The item is in good condition. Measures width cm.41, depth cm.29, height cm.30.
