Vintage Design
was launched on the Ideal Home Exhibition in March 1966 and became an instant Pop Art Classic!
Designed as throw-away furniture, they were distributed by mail order. In those days a revolutionary distribution system. It became a succes with young families due to the low cost of production and distribution.
Not only a hit in the UK, it became well known in France, Germany, Italy and the USA as well. A tin of paint was included so you could restore or repaint your furniture in a different colour!
Tomotom furniture was even on display in the Parisian exhibition of Contemporary-Seating 1925-1968.
Production ceased in 1971. Today they are rare and sought after because not many survived and are becoming a true collectors item. The chair we have for sale was shipped to Germany and sold by the German Paidi: a well known distributor for children’s furniture (see original label).
