Vintage Design
For many years, the true designer of this iconic chair was misattributed to Philip Arctander, making it one of the most mysterious chairs in Nordic design. However, recent detective work and meticulous research have revealed compelling evidence that Arnold Madsen was indeed the creative genius behind this remarkable design. with the collaborative efforts of Madsen and Schubell, the Clam Chair came to life, showcasing their shared commitment to pushing the boundaries of Danish furniture design. The “Musling stolen”, as it became known, was the first collaboration between designer Madsen and cabinet maker Henry Schubell set the foundation for many years of prosperous collaboration between the pair.
Many versions of this chair have been made. This set is an early example of this famous chair made in the 1940s. We can date it back to the 40s because the early versions are smaller and have lower backs.
These chairs have been reupholstered in a thick curly shearling upholstery, giving these cozy and highly comfortable chairs even more comfort, while adding to the marvelous design. The cream colour of the curly sheepskin combines very well with the warm wooden legs and armrest. The perfect pair to add into any space to bring in comfort and warmth.
