Vintage Design
with it’s clean and uncluttered lines, this vernacular Chinese bench combines lovely minimalist form with superb, rich patination. Dating to the late 19th Century, made from elm and finished with a deep red lacquer.
The patina of the legs and frame is wonderful and complex, created by the degradation of many layers of lacquer, leading up to the completely exposed and beautifully grained natural elm of the seat.
In superb unrestored and totally original condition, it is a solid and beautifully made piece. Makes a lovely hall bench or for one side of a dining table for those that like to mix and match their seating. 120cm long, 52cm high. The depth is 18.5cm across the seat and 36.5cm across the bottom of the splayed legs.
