19th Century French Baroque Neo-Gothic Carved Secretaire

Magnificent carved bureau table in the Baroque Neo-Gothic style. The terraced construction of work surfaces, with two-tier drawers and a double-leaf cabinet, is crowned with a baroque cartouche with a mirror and figures of mischievous putti with grapes. They rest on a carved platform with curved legs, whose lines are entwined with winged gargoyles and snakes. The panel of the drawer of the table is completely hidden by a carved garland of flowers and a wave of a sliding board. Ribbon – acanthus borders the countertop. Strict guardians of the table are the long necks of snake birds. Curled into rings, they give the subject a special mood and historical allusions. Ribbons of acanthus encircle the tiers, where a contrasting decor of intertwined vines and flowers, panels of rose vignettes, complete the decoration. France, second half of the 19th century.
